ANADIA 2022 GREAT CELEBRATION OF YOUTH CYCLING

ANADIA 2022 GREAT CELEBRATION OF YOUTH CYCLING

Only a few hours remain until the start of a major Youth cycling event, especially for Juniors and Under 23s, who will participate in the European Championships across three disciplines being held in the same venue in Anadia, Portugal: MTB (30 June-3 July), Road (7-10 July) and Track (14-19 July).

The event is undoubtedly a great opportunity for the host city as for three weeks over 1,000 athletes will compete in the scheduled races bringing huge crowds to the region.

Over the years the city of Anadia has welcomed highly prestigious sports events, especially in the Youth category as well as five editions of the Track Championships from 2011 to 2017, a BMX European Cup race (2021), as well as the World Cycling Centre Satellite Centre and various facilities (velodrome, BMX track  MTB, Modern Penthalon, Judo, Fencing and Gymnastics). Thanks to the specialised accommodation for sports activities this makes it a highly advanced and modern sports training facility.

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «The Anadia event, is without doubt one of our Confederation’s most important activities which is designed to promote and develop Youth cycling.

In Portugal, a country which has always welcomed and had close ties with our sport, we will experience a major, unprecedented, event which is not just a sports competition but also a great celebration of cycling involving girls and boys from all over Europe. For three weeks, Anadia and its region will be the focus of attention for European cycling fans.

The World Cycling Centre’s Satellite Centre in Anadia is a top-class facility, which is why the Union Européenne de Cyclisme pays great attention to all its activities, in particular supporting training sessions for athletes and technicians, the last of which was organised in April and May under the supervision of World Cycling Centre experts.

I wish to thank the Portuguese Cycling Federation and its President Delmino Pereira who together with the UCI Honorary Member, Dr Artur Lopes, were involved in the construction and supported the World Cycling Centre, which is now an example of excellence for Europe. Special thanks go to the City of Anadia, its Mayor Teresa Cardoso and the Vice-Preisdent of the Council José Sampaio, as well as the organisations and bodies that believed in this project from the beginning, and who over the years have proved their organisational ability.»
