The 2025 UEC Cyclo-Cross European Championships came to an end today in Middelkerke (Belgium), after two days of competition that attracted a total of 16,200 spectators, including 13,000 on the final day alone.
The Men’s Elite title went to Toon Aerts, who, nine years after his success in Pontchâteau in 2016, is once again European champion. The 32-year-old Flemish rider won after a balanced and tactical race, which was only decided in the final stages when he and defending champion Thibau Nys managed to distance themselves from their direct rivals. In the sprint, Aerts had the last word against his young compatriot, while Joran Wyseure completed an all-Belgian podium, ahead of Dutchman Pim Ronhaar.
The Women's Under-23 race confirmed Dutch dominance: Leonie Bentveld set the pace from the first lap and crossed the finish line more than a minute ahead of defending champion Célia Géry of France. The bronze medal went to another Frenchwoman, Amandine Muller.
The day began with the Men Juniors race, which saw Italy take the top two spots. Filippo Grigolini won the European jersey after a race full of character. Together with his teammate Patrik Pezzo Rosola, he led the race alongside Belgium's Giel Lejeune. In the final stretch, Grigolini took the initiative, distancing himself from his rivals to sprint to victory. Pezzo Rosola finished in second place, completing a memorable day for Italy, while Giel Lejeune had to settle for third place on the podium.
The next edition of the Cyclo-Cross European Championships will be held in Montferland-Zeddam (Netherlands), in the province of Gelderland, from 6 to 8 November 2026.
