BMX - 9 July 2018

1,742 registered riders from 26 countries will be battling for the titles on offer

Following the huge success of the 2018 edition of the BMX European Cup, the season is in full swing and the key event of the Challenges and Junior categories will take place from 13 to 15 July in Sarrians, with the European Championships.

This town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is preparing to experience a great event and all BMX fans will enjoy three days of super sporting action at a prestigious and highly technical venue since races will take place on a brand new track, opened last April.

This year we are also expecting to beat the participation record (for a Junior and Challenges event) since we have 1,742 registered riders from 26 countries. This figure demonstrates the growing and sustained interest in this spectacular discipline.

As far as the favourites are concerned, in the Juniors registered are the leaders of the UCI rankings and winners of the final rankings of the 2018 BMX World cup, the French champion, Leo Garoyan and the Swiss, Zoe Claessens as well as the current World Champion, Indy Scheepers (Netherlands).

Rocco Cattaneo, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «We are looking forward to the continental event in Sarrians for many reasons. It will be a great cycling festival in one of this discipine’s symbolic venues with over 1,700 riders taking part clearly proving that BMX is still in a period of sustained growth as we have seen with the excellent results of the 2018 BMX European Cup.

I would like to thank the French Cycling Federation and the passionate organisers of the Sarrians BMX Club who have been working hard for months to organise this event and are now ready to show the whole world the results of their excellent work thanks to the extensive media coverage of the Championships. We are proud to have them in our great European cycling family».

Full coverage of races will be streamed live on the site
